Another key point is that lots of carbon abatement initiatives will require investment and in some cases higher costs (eg aviation), and that is only going to be affordable and politically palatable if the economy is growing and people feel they can bear the increased prices. So choking growth in places like Cambridge also has a wider effect on our ability to afford / fund the energy transition that campaigners against individual growth-supporting projects ignore.
